    US Withholding Tax
I am a foreign national, living outside the United States. I do not own a home in the United States. I have a home in the UK where I spend some time but my permanent residence is in India and I have a home there. Am I liable to pay US Withholding Tax. What are the rules? Is there a US-India Tax Treaty. I do not work in the US but I have a bank account in the US and need to know if I give India as a permanent residence will withholding tax be deducted automatically? Thank you. epires

There is an India-US tax treaty. I don't know how this applies to your bank account though... only familiar with employees using the India-US tax treaty for salary purposes.
