Us india tax treaty article 25
I am a US resident performing freelance editing for a company in India. I have been asked to provide a Tax residency certificate for the purpose of avoiding double taxation. Is Article 25 "Relief for Double Taxation" of the tax treaty what is being asked for in the perjury statement? I know that seems obvious but the legalese is ridiculous.

[Insert name of individual and TIN] was a U.S. resident within the meaning of Article [#] of the U.S.-[country] treaty (including, in some cases, physical presence in the United States) immediately before entering [country]. The assignment began on [date] and ends on [date]. Article [#] of the U.S.-[country] treaty provides a [2 or 3] year exemption from income tax.

India. Actually, I mis-read the instructions and was looking at the teacher/researcher statement when I just needed to say I was a resident. I'll close the questions.

    Thanks anyway.
