Tax returns a student working on cpt can expect?
I am an INDIAN and a student in CA, finished my graduation on 19 Dec 2011.I worked on cpt from aug 04 2011 to dec 19 2011 in Georgia and I want to apply for tax returns and my federal income tax with held was 4193.44 and state income tax withheld was 1248.16. Can you tell me what tax refund I will get?In 2010 I was on cpt but I didn't worked and I contacted tax filing agent and he told me to get 1098T form from my university. I received it from my university and then he applied through 1040A form in 2010. I just want to know whether it was filed correctly in 2010 by using correct form? This year do I need both 1098T and W2 from to apply. I really don't have any Idea what is turbo tax and what expenses should I give to the agent. Can you please give me some info on this?

To do a refund estimate, I need to know what your box #1 WAGES on the Form W-2 were.

As for 2010, FOR SURE, the return was filed incorrectly, because international students on a F-1 visa CANNOT legally file Form 1040A, nor can you claim any education credit.

You will need to amend that return, filing Form 104X and attaching a properly-completed Form 1040NR-EZ and Form 8843. You will UNCLAIM any education credit you got, so you will probably end up writing a check with that amendment.

If you want my professional help, double-click on my title above and scroll down to my profile/signature. You will find my email address and websites there. Unlike the tax guy you used for your 2010 return, I KNOW what I am doing!

Your federal refund is $2,649 and your Georgia refund is ABOUT $328; both estimates were done manually, so there may be some variance.

If you are a non-resident alien (which you are if you arrived in country on or after 1 January 2007), then you CANNOT claim any education credits on your tax return. Sorry!
