State tax return garnished d/t "student loan"
    Greetings,
My state tax return ($289) was garnished I found out today due to some kind of outstanding student loan. I am told that it may be me or my wife but the state tax office will not say who it is exactly and will not tell me what "agency" has garnished the return. I am told to call the financial aid offices of the school's my wife and I attended to find out which school did this.
The filing was done in March of this year and my question is, why were we not informed of this in writing to receive proper notice? And why can't the tax office give the proper information out and not send us on a wild goose chase because I myself have attended 6 six schools in the past. We called the F/A offices of the schools we have attended in recent years and there are no outstanding balances or anything indicating this kind of action taken against us.
If you know about this kind of thing please help us because it's not so much about the money as it is the principle here.

Most every state government has some sort of oversight agency, similar to the federal Inspector General.

Identify and contact that state agency to get your answer.
