    SDI and SUI taxes
Hello! I am a non US citizen and I worked last summer in the USA, NJ. The program was called the Work and Travel USA. I had a J1 type of vis.Prior to my departure from Ukraine I was told that I would have to pay only Federal and States taxes on my jobs. Having two jobs and paying these taxes excluding all other kinds of taxes on one job, I paid only SDI and SUI taxes on my other job ( I worked as a waitress in a restaraunt). The first time I saw when these taxes were deducted from my paychecks, I asked my employer why was that. I explained him that I had to pay State and Federal taxes. To what he replied that "his lawers knew it better than me and that I shouldn't worry". So I continued paying only those taxes. I thought maybe these taxes were obligatory for restaurants businesses or something. However, thie time has come for me to do a taxback. I have to state all Federal and State taxes that I paid this summer in the US and the question about these SDI and SUI taxes arose. Is it possible that I owe some money for the US Payroll rather than they owe me to get some part of my taxes back that I paid this summer?
    Thank you

    Julls:

The SDI and SUI taxes that were collected are somewhat unique to NJ residents. Everyone pays them, and the exmeption that you received from the J-1 visa does not apply to state taxes.

No additional taxes will be due from you when you file your tax return.
