HI I Am Praveen. I am here on L1 visa; I came to USA oct 2005 left back in 28 feb 2006,
Came back April 2006 went back mid June 2006, came back oct 2006 with my wife she is on l2 visa.
I am staying santa Clara, CA.

    1. For 2005 I filed the returns as single.
    2. How should I do it for now "2006”. Can I claim her as dependent for whole year?
    3. Should I file jointly the returns if not how should I file.
    4. Do I need to take itin ? If yes, is it before filing tax.

I know I have asked lot of questions. But help will be appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance.

    Praveen:

You can file jointly with your wife as resident aliens under the provisions of a non-resident alien chooing to file jointly with the resident alien spouse.

You will have to download Form W-7 to apply for an ITIN for your spouse.

Contact me at [email protected] if you want professional help doing this.
