    How do I file?
    For the past 10 years I haven't file cause I was married and my husband handel all the taxes, but we divorce so this year will be the first time I have had to file.
    Can someone please answer these questions for me on what to do?
    I have a son on SSI, last year he got 7,476.00, he does not work, he is mildy retared.
    Last year I made 14,112.00, on my check stub my year to date fed tax is 1,390.00.
    We share a house with someone else, who we pay rent to.
    How do I file?
    Do I file head of house hold?
    Do I file singal and claim myself and him as a depend?
    Do I need to send in my w-2 forms?
    Will he get a form from SSI that I have to send in?
    What form do I need to use, mind should be real easy, I have notthing. Except me and my son ( who is 18, but mildy retared,does not work,):confused:
    I was wondering cause I wanted to try and file online.:confused:

    You can file as Head of Household; disability payments for child will not be taxed; your deductions (standard, dependent one child) will be about $10,500. In addition, you probably will be eligible for earned income credit (about $400). Tax will probably be less than $500...

    You will owe ZERO taxes, because the combination of your Head of Household standard deduction and the personal exemptions for yourself and your son EXCEED your $14,112 income.

    Additionally, you qualify for the Earned Income Credit. With the EIC, your refund is about $4,200.
