    H4 To F1 - Tax Residency Status
    Hi,

    I was under H4 from 1999 to early 2007. In Mid 2007, I switched to F1. I received a Tax ID number while I was under H4.

Now, my question is am I considered a resident for tax purposes for the year 2007? What about next year?

    My current status is F1.

    Thanks

As long as this is the first year you are under F-1, you are NOW considered to be a non-resident alien.

You can retain this non-resident alien status throu 2011.

So, even though I lived in US for 7 years in H4 Visa, it has no bearing now because I am under F1 Visa right now?

That is correct. I have already researched this and determined that the previous H-4 visa status has no bearing on the F-1 visa.
