    H1B Status - Am I a Resident Alien?
    Hi,

I arrived in the US last year in October on an H1B visa. I want to start filing state (California) and federal taxes for the three months of 2006 that I was in the country. Am I a resident alien for tax purposes? Or have I not been in the country long enough?
Can anybody tell me which tax forms I need to fill out? I am really confused.
    Thanks!

p.s. I am unmarried and have no dependents.

No, you are a non-resident alien. File Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ for 2006.

As for California, just file as a part-year resident. You can find the forms on the California Government website.
