    Dependent mother need to file tax on her didsability check,so she can get her own reb
    Hi,
    My mother depend on me, I filed her at dependent. She got Disability checks about 8K/yr
    Can she file her own tax so she can get rebate?

    You can claim her as a dependent if you provide more than HALF of her total support and she does NOT have more than $3,500 of taxable income.

    If the disability checks are from Social Security or from a private insurance plan, they are NOT taxable and do not count in the total support issue.

    If they are from her former employer, then the income IS taxable and you cannot claim her.
