    Deductions for non-resident alien from india
    Hi,

    I field taxes in Apr 2004 and Apr 2005 as a student with F-1 visa. I field taxes in Apr 2006 and Apr 2007 as a worker with a H-1B visa. This will be the 5th year I'll be filing taxes in the US and wanted to know what all exemptions/deductions I can claim. Am I still considered a non-resident alien?

    Thanks

    You MAY have been a non-resident alien for the return filed in April 2006.

    However, for the one filed in April 2007 and for the one filed THIS April, you are a resident alien.

1040NR -> 1040: Non-resident Alien to Resident Alien? [ 1 Answers ]

I've heard a rumor that after 5 years of being an international student filling out 1040NRs, you are supposed to start filling out a 1040 instead of a 1040NR. I've been in the States since 2001 (F-1 undergrad, then 1 year of F-1 OPT, and now with a new F-1 for grad school), 6 years so far and...
