Claiming social security tax for F-1
I am on an f1 visa and worked during 2004.
I have complete the 1040nr-ez and my state tax forms.
However, my W-2 says that I had paid social security tax and Medicare tax. Since I am on an F1 visa I am not required to pay this tax.

So how can I claim this tax amount? Which additional forms (if any) do I need to file.

Thank you for your help. Any leads would be much appreciated.

    Hobokeni:

Your first step is to go to your employer and ask him to refund the Social Security and Medicare taxes. At the minimum, if you are still on F-1 visa status, you should inform him that you are exempt from these taxes and he should stop withholding Social Security and Medicare taxes from your pay.

If he does not wish to cooperate, you should file Form 843 and request a refund of these taxes from the U.S. government. Instructions for doing this can be found in Pub 519, which can be downloaded from www.irs.gov.
