    1099 Misc Multi State
    Hi,
I have a 1099 Misc to be filed with my taxes. I am a Non Resident. Now the situation is with my state forms. I was working from home and in the mid year I moved from Maryland to Syracuse, NY while conitnuing the job,
So for which state should I pay the tax for, NY or Maryland or both.

    Thanks in advance

    Nitinr1:

Both. You will have to pay Maryland taxes for that portion of the income reported on Form 1099-MISC that was earned in Maryland, and then the rest in NY. The expenses that you deduct on Schedule C/C-EZ to offset that income are similarly split.

If your income is paid in such a way that it is not easily split between the states, then any reasonable allocation method is acceptable.

When you file the state returns, attach copies of the federal and the other state's tax return so that the state tax authorities can see that you properly allocated income.
