    Still getting popups after formatting
Hi. Here is my question. I formatted my HD because it had several viruses and spyware on it (Using the windows CD, Deleting NTFS partitions etc.. )After reinstalling all the hardware the ONLY thing I did was log on to Windows update(Start menu, windows update.. connected to windows site automatically. I did not go on Google or any other site before doing this). While I was downloading SP4 I started receiving windows messenger pop ups telling me to go to regfix.com because my registry was corrupted. What is wrong with my PC? Could I still be infected with something even after formatting? How do I get rid of this. I've tried using Ad-aware, rootkit detectors, MCaffee Stinger etc but I can't find anything wrong. I run windows 2000 and unfortunately I'm literally on dialup out here so downloading anything is painful. How can I fix this? I didn't remove any of the cards before formatting could this be the reason why I'm still infected with something.

Any help would be much appreciated

When you format the system it removes all the patches Microsoft sends out via the windows updates to patch the holes the virus and spyware writers use to exploit the system. And with Microsoft not supporting win2000 any longer it is even more difficult to protect the system .

It is great to know you are getting the latest sp for win 2000
