When trying to skype using a pay as you go modem I have a terrible picture and delayed sound. I have done the recommended sound checks and all is fine. Is it the modem? Signal? Any advice welcome

I have Internet Explorer open. I search and choose nbc today show, select a video clip from the window. The Explorer shuts down totally off the window. If I use a different browser like Mozilla Firefox, it works. Do I want to uninstall Explorer and Reinstall, or what? Help!
