Judgement for credit card debt from state where I never lived
I received a default judgement for alleged credit card debt from NY. I have never lived in NY and was unaware of the suit. Now my bank account has been frozen where I live.
Can you legally be sued in a state where you have never lived?
    What is the best defense?
    Thanks,

First you file to vacate the judgement on the grounds of improper service. If that goes through, you can get the account released.

You will probably be properly served as you leave the court house. But then you can demand to see proof of the debt.

Thank you! This gives me a place to begin.
Is there anything I can do to immediately unfreeze the account?
    Thanks again.
