    Credit card lawsuit
I am being said by citibank for a dafulted loan. I have tried and tried to work with these people, even refinanced m home last year and got them to offer me a payoff, which they did, but only left it open for three days. By the time I received the verificaion letter, the time was up. These people have been brutal. Considering their own financial woes, government bailouts, wasteful spending, plans to buy a 47m jet, how can they have the audacity to do this. A principle that was about 3k has now turned into almost $10k. How do I respond to the summons? Can get out of all or most of this? I'm retired (on pension), my husband is retired on SSI), we don't have this kind of money, and I need to know to what extend they can and will go, and what I can do?

You can contact them and try to renegotiate a settlement. I hope you still have the money that you received when you refinanced your home.. I don't know that they'll want to negotiate, but it's better than doing nothing and having a default judgment placed against you.

To make sure we're checking all of our options, what state is this in? What was the date that you last made and payment or used the card?

I agree, it's frustrating that they demand money when they're clearly wasting it but then again, you and I are the ones who chose to sign on the dotted line. We agreed to their terms; we can't just walk away because we don't like how they're spending our money.

Up to the point you go to court, you can try and get a written repayment plan. But they don't have to agree to any terms they don't like once in default. You can reply that you intend to defend yourself and show them the paper work offer for the reduced pay off.

But if the fees they are asking for, interest, late fee and more are all legal, the judge will award the judgement
