    How can I prevent this
The women in my family get extreamly overweight from childbearing, and we also get very bad stretchmarks.

I get A lot of ingrown hairs and BOILS directly ON the stretchmarks :( :( its sometimes painfull and it embarrasses me, even though my husband says its OK (he is the only one allowed to see my fat stomach ;) )

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? My mom said its normal and she gets them all the time as well.

Its mostly on my stomach and hips, but sometimes I will also get them on the inside of my thigh up close to my groin muscle.

Ive heard that cocoa butter lotion does help some, as well as fading creams utilizing Retin-A (believe it was called... I'm not an expert) help minimize the marks themselves.

Might not hurt to give a dermatologist a visit though.

Thanks steve :) ill try cocoa butter. I can't use retin A I used it as a teen for acne and ended up with hives lol. But ill definitely try the cocoa butter and talk to my PCP about a referral to a dermatologist.

I don't believe that the cocoa butter will help with existing stretch marks, but prevents new ones. It aids in skin elasticity.
