Extremely Dry Skin
Ever since I was little I have been plagued with severe dry skin. Everyday after showering, I have to apply lotion or my skin gets so dry it will literally crack open and bleed, it looks a lot like the dry cracked up ground in a desert. During the summer, its not so bad and I have found a lotion that works quite well. But now that it is getting colder and the air is getting drier, nothing seems to work. I have tried every lotion in the skin care aisle. Baby oil doesn't even work. I will exfoliate and apply lotion after a shower, and less than an hour later, my skin is tight and flaking off. This problem is so frustrating because in the winter I find that I am applying lotion 3-5 times a day!
Do I need to see a dermatologist, if they would even have a solution, or is there some home remedy that will work? Please help.

Dry skin has a low level of sebum and can be prone to sensitivity. Dryness is exacerbated by wind, extremes of temperature and air-conditioning, all of which cause the skin to flake, chap and feel tight. To improve your skin's condition, you will need to drink more water and moisturize your skin. But, it seems to me that you've tried everything, but nothing has worked for you. If you have severe dry skin, I definitely think you should see a dermatologist. The dermatologist can prescribe a cream to heal the dryness.

Hi!! Try using "VIRGIN COCONUT OIL" they say Its effective in smothing dry skin. My dad use it orally for health reasons, and it can be use liberally also. Here in Philippines, A 50-year old celebrity says she's using VIRGIN COCONUT OIL for her skin. And when you see her, her skin is very smooth. But the negative of it is when you take it orally... It doesn't taste nice!! But I think you'll be happy in the results :)

Dry skin is a big thing. One of the problem is because we wash in chlorinated water everyday. Chlorine is a bleaching agent and it strips away the natural skin oil. All the cream and lotion we put on is not the same and it is a after application. I do have dry skin myself and I use shower filter. It really help is you case is same as mine. Use shower filter and also apply the cream to see it that works. I myself uses shower filter and finds it to work for me, but still I use cream.
