    Make it stop or prolong it.
    Well my question is a silly one, I suppose, but I would REALLY REALLY REALLY like some feed back

    I want to know if you can stop or pro-long your period. The reason I ask is because I am taking my boyfriend to this amazing Casino Resort and Spa this week end for his birthday and he has made it clear to me that he would like to get his "groove" on and I am dying for some "grooving" myself :p . So I think I am suppose to start my period on Friday or Saturday if I could just stretch it out a few precious days it would make a world of difference to me... :D

    Help..? :(

    You may not be able to groove like you want. However, there are two ways I was told and I cannot verify them, as I never tried either method:

    There are two ways.

    You can take the birth control pill (which you should be doing anyway so you don't get pregnant)and take it without a break so you don't have a period. There is a new one coming out next year which is meant to be taken continuously.

    The other way is if you just want to stop one period for a vacation or similar. You take pills starting on the day your period is due and continue until you want your period.

    For both of these methods you need to see a doctor or family planning clinic.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~
    From the netdoctor website:
    I am not on the Pill but I am looking for something to stop my period, as I am due on at a family wedding next month.
    I have heard about the medication Norethisterone and I am just wondering how you take it and how it's used. Is it in a tablet form?
    Answer
    This is a common request when menstruation threatens to spoil one's best-laid plans.
    Norethisterone is a progestogen hormone in tablet form, which is taken three times a day for three days before your period is due and then for seven days to delay the period.
    At the end of the seven days, the tablets are stopped and your period starts as normal. It is available by prescription from your Doctor.
    Yours sincerely
    I don't think there is much you can do in a week about this. Are you on Birth control pills? If you are you can just skip your period week and start a new pack. Other than that I don't personally know of any way to to about it!
    Well... You can take tincture of red clover and chasteberry. Both are available at most large health food stores. They act like vitamin K in clotting factor. The big problem is though, if you are on any anti coagulants (Warfarin, Heperin, Et. Al), then this is a BIG no-no!
    One dropper of each in a 8oz. Cup of water and swallowed. Followed by fruit juice, because both leave a nasty taste. I have used them to stop periods, when I had endometrial problems and no insurance
    I took mine twice daily. Shepherd's purse is also a good thing to use, and it tastes like a straight shot of rotgut whiskey, which is better than licorice flavored alcohol. If there is a Whole Foods market near you, I'd say go there. But any health food store that offers homeotherapy tinctures, or herbs, will probably have them. Oops, I almost forgot. A dab of progesterone crème applied to a "fatty" part of your body and rubbed in will also help. Good Luck!
    A lot of women use the pill to skip their menstrual cycles but I don't even want to recommend this, it cannot be healthy for you. I'm weary of the pill all together.
    Good luck with trying the natural medicines :)
    I have a Whole Foods Market just 2 minutes from where I live and I am going there to day after work. I just wanted to ask a few more things... 1. Are there ANY side affects? 2.And how long do I drink this "stuff" do I drink it everyday I want to prolong my period for or... what would you recommend? 3. Is it expensive to buy the products?
    Thank you for all your help
    I disagree! (but didn't want to give you a red box)
    Once or twice is not unhealthy you don't actually have a 'real' period on the pill anyway. When the original pill was first designed no break was included - it was added as psycologically it was putting women off. However I have heard that some pharmaceutcal companies are thinking of manufacturing some this way soon as some women may find this an appealing side effect these days. I could go into the mechanism of the pill and why this is not unhealthy but I'll probably bore everyone so I won't.
    If you read the litrature you will see it is safe to double up packs.
    Hmm, A Whole foods near where you live? Are you in Florida?
    The stuff is kind of expensive ($10-15 per bottle). Start taking it now, and stop when you get back from your vacation.
    I really didn't notice any side effects at all, and since you are only taking it for a few days I don't think that it will give you any if there were. The only bad thing I stated before. They taste nasty. So dilute them, and have a strong, but not too sugary drink chaser. Or brush your tongue afterwards.
    If you were starting your menses, then it should resume in a day or two. Otherwise it will start as normal.
    If you didn't start in time, you can always get him to use protection (Trojan has a new one that is supposed to arouse him called "Twisted Pleasure"), and get some "chuck" pads (pads with plastic on one side and paper on the other, used for nighttime incontinence) at the drug store, to use under you. Also, with a tampon properly inserted, cunnilingus can be performed with no ill effects or taste. Or tell him to get over it and earn his "Red Wings" (Biker slang for doing it during the period)
    Okay well, my theory is, we're meant to bleed naturally, Women that is. So taking these pills to skip your period, (yep, lots of women do it, some of my friends have prolonged it for 6 months!). You are meddling with your body, it's upsetting the natural balance.
    There are many, many, many, health professionals that are all for the pill but a lot of health professionals are not, biologists who have studied it in depth, my Dad for example with ten years biology study at university and further study- Remembers his teachings and learnings and he will continue to preach how bad the pill is for women.
    There are so many contributions that meddle with our reproductive system. Smoking is one of them but I will believe my medical professional Father and few Doctors who are also weary.
    Ahh... I thought you'd say that but also consider that naturally you would not have birth control and would instead become pregnant at an early age an continue to have successive children until the menopause/ some other complication. This would mean that you would not have nearly the same number of periods as is seen today (consider 100 years ago). So isn't it unnatural to have the number of periods experienced today? Just a thought.
    Personally I would think someone would be mad to prolong it for six months as in myself I feel pretty rubbish when I have occasionally doubled a pack. But then again what works for some doesn't work for another.
    As with your dad I in no way doubt his expertise but for every expert there is an equal and opposite expert (not myself the people I got the info off!) This is a really interesting disscussion and time permitting I think I will post a thread in the members disscussions board to canvas other people's opinions/expertise, as I don't want to completely hijack this thread.:p OK I admit it I'm a geek who loves scientific controversy
    Hey, you could also try exercising I know that every time I start working out, my period delays a day or two and the rest of the time is really light. Just jog for 30 minutes every day or ride a bike a couple of miles a day. Plus it will give you some nice leg muscles that can come in very handy!
