    Diverter and Shower Knobs
I had a diverter that wasn't pushing water through the shower head very efficiently. Since all of the knobs started dripping, my friend recommended that I pull all stems and replace at least the washers. So we pulled out the stems and replaced them. We had some trouble getting the knobs off the wall so he pulled them off. In doing so, broke the screws off holding the caps to the stems, so we had no choice but to replace everything.

We replaced the stems with the right stems (price phisher). We also replaced the seats on hot and cold but couldn't get the old seat out for the diverter. We used lots of teflon tape around the stems.

I'm concerned that we didn't replace the seat on the diverter. There's plenty of water pressure coming out of the shower head. What problems, though, could come from not replacing the old diverter seat if it's a good match and we coated everything with teflon tape? Could I have leaking behind the wall? How would I know? My buddy told me that if it was leaking--we'd know immediately. Is this true?

    Thanks for the help,
    Ron

    Hi Ron,
Your buddy was correct. If you had a pressure leak it would show up somewhere. Unless the diverter seat was nicked or had rough spots you should be OK. Sounds like you did a good job. Congratulations! Tom
