Briggs & Stratton 14.5hp Flywheel ring
Today we put on a new flywheel ring gear and a new starter pinion gear. The new flywheel ring is aluminum instead of the plastic that was on it. I was told this was due to the starter gear being easier to replace it will be the first to be worn down.

We tried starting the tractor and the starter gear worn right then and there. I went to the store and got a new starter gear and asked if there was anything I could do to prevent this from happening again, he suggested if it pivoted out to move it out a little, it was too far into the flywheel ring. The starter doesn't pivot and I'm at a loss on what I should do. I really don't want to have to take the starter apart every time I use it and have to spend $5 to replace the gear each time too. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance :)

Ok I'm not sure if I fixed it or not, but did put on a new starter gear and it sounded better than the first one I put on. Plus it doesn't continue to "run" when the key is on. This may be because the battery is dead, but I had it on my van for about 5 minutes charging. I do have a battery charger on it now and will keep it on all night so we'll see how it goes in the morning. I'm praying that it will FINALLY start!!
