    We have put a real heavy burden on our children . If I was part of the generation I would rebel against the boomers .

    And it's all for no really good reason. If the feds had spent the last fifty years putting the SS surplus into the hilariously named "trust fund", then there would be no problem, or at least for next two or three decades. Some common sense, a rare commodity in Washington, would work wonders.

    Inflation makes this worse. SS COLA this year is 8.7% increase in benefits . The CBO now projects SS spending over the next decade to be $412 billion more than it projected last May. "By 2033, the forecasts suggest, the federal government will be spending as much on Social Security alone as it does on all discretionary spending — military and otherwise — combined".
