NBC News caused a firestorm on social media after it retracted its explosive reporting on last week's attack of Paul Pelosi. On Friday's installment of "Today," NBC News national correspondent Miguel Almaguer went viral for stunning revelations of what apparently transpired when police arrived to Pelosi's San Francisco home.

"Sources familiar with what unfolded in the Pelosi residence now revealing when officers responded to the 'high priority call,' they were seemingly unaware they've been called to the home of the Speaker of the House," Almaguer told viewers. "After a 'knock and announce,' the front door was opened by Mr. Pelosi. The 82-year-old did not immediately declare an emergency or tried to leave his home but instead began walking several feet back into the foyer toward the assailant and away from police. It's unclear if the 82-year-old was already injured or what his mental state was, say sources."

"According to court documents, when the officer asked what was going on, defendant smiled and said 'everything's good' but instantaneously a struggle ensued as police clearly saw David DePape strike Paul Pelosi in the head with a hammer. After tackling the suspect, officers rushed to Mr. Pelosi who was lying in a pool of blood," Almaguer continued.

Paul was correct to act friendly-ish with a home invader who was wielding a hammer. I would have offered him a snack and "plotted" with him for when Nancy returns home.

The curious aspect was why NBC posted the story and then, a few hours later, decided to take it down. I'm not saying there is definitely something being hidden, but it does look suspicious. Where is the body cam footage from the police or the 911 tapes?

If I was fearful for my life and the cops finally showed up, I'd go out the door quickly and let them deal with the perp. To smile and say, "Everything's good," just strikes me as very strange.

None of it adds up. He supposedly broke a window to gain entrance. This is the Speaker of the House's residence, and yet there is no security to detect that break in? The house was not being actively monitored? It just has a lot of strange aspects.

Evidently PP was not armed and thus was unable to defend himself. There is a lesson to be learned there for sure.

Who wants to sit behind a camera all night??? Boring, boring, boring. We have security cameras and use them to watch for the arrival of our late-night dinner guests (Sally Skunk, Ricky Raccoon, Randy Raccoon, and little Peter Possum). They enjoy the Temptation treats and cat food that Mattie the Cat (our indoor cat) won't eat.

We certainly don't keep our eyes glued to EZ-VIZ (the cameras) otherwise.

Yeah. After all, it's only the residence of one of the most powerful people in our government and the person second in line to the presidency. Why would anyone bother to consider that job to be important? They could say, "Hey! WG doesn't monitor her home camera all the time, so why should we do this?" [SARC EXTREME]

I could tell them how to attract wildlife for late-night dinners -- so there'd be fun activity to watch. Or do like my husband did. Set up a computer monitor (or a tv) next to the security screen, so they can easily watch both. This is NOT difficult!

If I ever have the opportunity, I'll tell the Capitol Police to go by your house for a little instruction. Then the Speaker could really sleep well at night, knowing that the cops were monitoring the house while they were watching a replay of the Super Bowl at the same time.
