    Cancel culture the next wave
Not content to just de-platform political opponents from social media ;the cancel culture is taking their censorship to the next level. Big Tech companies like PayPal and WePay;a JPMorgan Chase subsidiary, were working with left-wing groups like the ADL and SPLC to create lists of individuals and groups who should be denied financial services.
As an example ;when Defense of Liberty PAC scheduled an event with Donald Trump ,WePay terminated it's services to the PAC.
Last year Banks United ,a Florida bank shut down Trump's accounts without giving a reason for the termination. Other banks have done the same to Trump accounts .The Minnesota Bank & Trust is terminating its business relationship with MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell because of his political activities .

These kind of activities have been under the radar in the public relm for some time . The emperor initiated Operation Choke Point during his reign .

From the House Oversight Committee report :
Operation Choke Point was created by the Justice Department to “choke out” companies the Administration considers a “high risk” or otherwise objectionable, despite the fact that they are legal businesses. The goal of the initiative is to deny these merchants access to the banking and payments networks that every business needs to survive.
    · Operation Choke Point has forced banks to terminate relationships with a wide variety of entirely lawful and legitimate merchants. The initiative is predicated on the claim that providing normal banking services to certain merchants creates a “reputational risk” sufficient to trigger a federal investigation. Acting in coordination with Operation Choke Point, bank regulators labeled a wide range of lawful merchants as “high-risk” – including coin dealers, firearms and ammunition sales, and short-term lending. Operation Choke Point effectively transformed this guidance into an implicit threat of a federal investigation.

More and more 'deplorables ' are being cancelled in social media and are being denied the financial resources to operate .The regulatory standard of "reputational risk," in practice is little more than the regulator's subjective opinion of the individual or group or industry. Once defunded, it is often difficult or impossible to find funding sources elsewhere .

This is what is happening to the truckers in Canada. Son of Castro Trudeau first denied to engage or listen to their concerns. He deemed their views unacceptable .

He has since invoked emergency powers designed to be used in the event of a terrorist attack . According to the law , the "emergency" must meet a high bar, an "urgent and critical situation" that "seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians". The legislation could ONLY be used when the emergency cannot be addressed by ANY existing law and IF it exceeds the capacity of the provinces to handle it effectively. Neither situation existed at the time it was invoked . Invoking the law as it was envisioned would require the threat or use of “serious violence.” The Truckers have been entirely peaceful playing “We Are the World” and waving Maple Leaf flags. What called "hateful rhetoric " was the emergency most often used to justify the enactment of the emergency powers .

He then went further and invoked a new directive called the 'Emergency Economic Measures Order' under a law called the 'Proceeds of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act'. He directed financial institutions to stop “providing any financial or related services” to anyone associated with the protests (a “designated person”). He required these institutions with a “duty to determine” if one of their customers is a “designated person.” A “designated person” is anyone who “directly or indirectly” participates in the protest, including donors who “provide property to facilitate” the protests through crowdfunding sites. Anyone who donated to one of the donor sites ;no matter how small that donation might be, is now at risk of being financially black listed.

Said one of the protest organizers ;“It feels like being banished from the medieval village left to die.”

Dr Jordan B Peterson on Twitter: "From BJ Dichter, one of the organizers of the Ottawa protest. If you don't think this could happen to you or someone you love you're a fool. He's been made a nonperson. Without being charged or tried. Is this what we're now doing to people who differ in political opinion? https://t.co/Po5rbKUbxJ" / Twitter

The compliant press rather than being the watchdogs they are supposed to be ; defenders of democracy have been cheerleading Trudeau's descent into authoritarian rule . CNN contributor Julliete Kayem's tweet is a perfect example.

Juliette Kayyem on Twitter: "Trust me, I will not run out of ways to make this hurt: cancel their insurance; suspend their drivers licenses; prohibit any future regulatory certification for truckers, etc. Have we learned nothing? These things fester when there are no consequences." / Twitter

These emergency powers by law are only supposed to be for a 30 day period . But as already noted , Trudeau's assistant PM has made it clear that some of the rules will remain permanent . And there is no telling how long the rent seeking financial institutions will continue to do the PM's bidding .

We in the US sacrificed a lot of personal freedoms in the last 2 years for the collective good . In the words of Justice Gorsuch
Government is not free to disregard the First Amendment in times of crisis… Yet recently, during the COVID pandemic, certain States seem to have ignored these long-settled principles . .. . . Even if the Constitution has taken a holiday during this pandemic, it cannot become a sabbatical . . .. . . we [judges] may not shelter in place when the Constitution is under attack. Things never go well when we do . . .
