Do I have to have storage insurance for a vehicle that is not being driven?
So some descriptions of the situations first:

    1. I am currently living in an apartment that we have rented. It is in Vancouver, BC
    2. My parents own a car here, but are currently residing in Korea. I own only a learners driver's license. I do not drive the car, firstly because it is not supported by the law and also I do not think I can park the car properly after taking it out.
    3. Since it is not being driven, the car has not been washed and is quite dirty.
    4. It will be another couple months until my parents return.
    5. Currently, I do not have anyone that I can ask to help washing the car.
    6. Today, I read a post on the apartment elevator demanding all undriven cars to have a copy of storage insurance on the dash.

I have two questions regarding this situation.
First, is #6 supported by the tenant law?
Second, is there any good solution to this situation?

I don't see anything that requires such insurance inn BC. So the question is whether the apartment building can require it. You would have to check your lease to see if they can do it.

First there should be many "onsite" car wash companies that do mobile car washes and detailing.

Not unusual from my own experience in Apartment/Condominium/townhouse situations with a communal parking lot. They can and do often require current registration/inspection, and insurance, this prevents inoperative/abandoned vehicles from accumulating and provides a mechanism where they can take action when they do.

The State/Locality can require one thing.. but the association can impose tighter restrictions.

I like Fr Chucks recommendation...it helps prevent drawing attention to the vehicle even if all requirements are met.

I agree with Chuck and Smoothy, if you cannot drive that shouldn't stop you from keeping the car clean.

Or find someone (NEIGHBOR) with a license to run it through a car wash for you, maybe bribe them with lunch or a 6pack afterward. Then no one will think it's abandoned. Apartment complexes can demand you are insured on their lot, check your lease under parking lot requirements, and privileges.

I've never heard of storage insurance, except for items including cars that are in actual facilities for that purpose, so it would seem that merely notifying the apartment leasing office of your parents extended absence due to vacation would clear this up.

One wonders why this is not so, if the rent I maintained on time.

I think they're referring to cars that are being stored without current registration and insurance - i.e. not legal to take out on the road. So, is the car registered and insured? If it is, then there should be no issue. But if not, then I can understand their concern.
