Win Xp sp2 make the windows or all the process slow. Try the sp3. It is unbeliveably fast, as I heard.

I also have Win XP SP2 on a 256mb RAM, I have my computer crystal clean, but you do need to accept that it will not run as fast as other computers. To speed your comp up, try removing files from start-up using msconfig.exe or the software explorer on windows defender. Also, exess files will slow down the computer, try using CCleaner to delete unnessisary files. Other things that comtribute are the animations you may have on windows, if you do the following:
Right Click "My Computer"-> Click Properties-> Select "Advance" tab-> Click "Settings" under the Performance area-> Under the "Visual Settings" untick all but the following "Smooth edges of screen fonts", "Smooth-scroll list boxes", "Use drop shadows for icon lables on the desktop" and "Use visual styles on windows and buttons"
This should give you computer a boost.

I wouldn't run XP on anything less than 512M, with 1G a better choice.
