    Tiny white mites in home
    Hi,
I live in Mumbai. We are seeing a while bunch of very tiny white mites in our all flat including walls, kitchen or anything that is in the house. They are also seen in our clothes and books, bags. Can someone please help in identifying what they may be and how can we get rid of them. I need to shift the house in next 2 months but my biggest worry is that these mites may shift with us to the new house. We tried using hit of cockroaches and insects, flies but to no avail. Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Nikhil

More information would help us answer your question. Could you please use measurements instead of "very tiny:" A millimeter, half a mm, barely visible? Are there legs and how many? How fast do they move? (it's assumed they move since you called them mites)>

A picture would be of tremendous help. To post a picture, click on the "Go Advanced" button under the Answer box then click the paperclip icon to bring up the "Manage Attachments" screen that will let you upload your pictures.

Hi, Thanks for your response. I tried to click a picture but they are so tiny that I am not able to get a sensible picture. They look like two pencil dots combined together (I mean by size) which is almost like 1 mm and are visible to eye when we strain a bit and try to see that yes they are mites. I am not sure on number of legs but they are alive and they do move. One of my friends told me that they grow in rainy season or from birds feather or feaces but we have no pets or birds at home. And these mites are everywhere walls, cubboards, almirah, clothes, books, speakers, kitched, toilet I mean at every location or item within our house :(
Please let me know if this information can be helpful in determining what they are and how can they be treated.
    Thanks.

Your friend may be correct. Bird mites have been known to spread rapidly and widely from a single nest in the eaves of a building. Here's a picture showing their size. They appear black because of photography, they're actually almost colorless.

As far as getting rid of them, unless you can find the nest, good luck. To avoid transporting them, wash everything you transport with ammonia or chlorine bleach. Bleach is better but will harm fabrics so use ammonia on them. Do not let the items you wash become re-infested.
