    Intermittent Telephone Problem
This problem is driving me crazy. I have phone and DSL coming into my home on the same line. DSL splitter is outside. When it rains, incoming calls ring once, then stop. The DSL continues to work fine. I have tried disconnecting the house from the incoming line at the NIC box outside and the one-ring problem remains. I have even taken a phone outside in the rain and plugged it into the SBC NIC box and it just rings once and stops. Seems to me it is the telco companies problem.

The problem is that it is intermittent. Last time I had the problem I called SBC and they sent a lineman out 3 days later. The rain was gone and so was the problem. He said there was nothing he could do!

Today it's raining again, the problem is back, and I have arranged another service call, again 3 days away. If the lineman again tells me that there is nothing he can do, assuming the problem clears up again, could anyone suggest a different approach I might take to get this problem repaired?

Any advice would be MUCH appreciated.

It pretty much depends on which telco you are using. Most now define their responsibility to end at a demarcation point of their choosing. Here in Canada most telcos will offer service for wiring problems right up to the interface box (Point of Demarcation) where their drops enter your house and your inside wiring begins. Your problem seems to be at the demarc so when you call you'll have to find out if they own the interface box.

    Hope this helps.

    SBC Install the NIC
Thank you for the reply. If I recall correctly, the NIC box was installed by my phone company, SBC.

    Best wishes,

Do you have digital cable available in your area? My former phone company had me about ready to fire bomb their office when I was on dial up and their switching equipment missed numbers when my modem dialed half the time, especially on rainy days. I went cable and Vonage. I now pay just $72/mo. Total for great high speed internet, full featured local phone service, and unlimited long distance anywhere from the Rio Grande to the North Pole. My cable company claims up to 5 MBPS. www.vonage.com is available anywhere you have hot running ethernet. Take you home phone along on trips if you hotel has high speed internet.

To all: To summarize: the intake, the outflow, freon, etc. have been determined to be fine. I guess what I'm really trying to evaluate is the blower motor itself. It is a multi-speed type, although only 2 speeds are used (med & high). Has anyone experience a motor that intermittently doesn't...
