    Positive hpv/abnormal pap
Hey. My pap came back abonormal. When your pap comes back abnormal they immediately test for hpv. That also came back positive. They scheduled me for a colopscopy/biopsy and I did that and they asked me to come back in 2 weeks for results. My doctor said my results from that came back as low grade... what do that mean? Im lost!!

The CDC has a great website and info on pap smears and their results.

Basically you have HPV but it is minor. Which means they'll just monitor you and you'll probably be getting more pap smears and more often. Wonderful eh? The good news is that low grade infections rarely result in anything more then more pap smears. The take home message is that you're okay and don't have to worry about cancer or anything like that at this point.

The monitoring will ensure that if things go south than you will be treated early and effectively. So no worries all around.

    MAYBE YOU DIDN'T TYPE THAT.

Please, we're all friends here, no need to shout. Turn the caps lock off.

High risk HPV, according to Google, suggests the variety that can cause genital warts and possibly cervical cancer. The low grade result from the biopsy mean that, while you have high risk HPV, the changes seen on your cervix do not indicate cancer or anything beyond more abnormal cells.

The result is the same. You're going to be monitored more closely for possible cervical cancer. This is also an STI so you should tell your partner and previous partners that you have this. Men don't usually show this but are carriers. So it would be polite so they can inform their partners and get tested.
