Get your parents to call the principle and explain to them how this is unfair and that they believe you need to be doing a lot of non school work while at school.

We here at AMHD cannot help you get around any sort of administrative restrictions imposed on a School, Work, or any other network not owned and operated by yourself. These restrictions can include (but are not limited to): Website Blocking policies, Software Installation policies, Email retention policies, Software Configuration policies, Network/Internet usage policies, Network Configuration policies, Forum or Chat Room Bans, Game Server Bans, or any other actions that are deemed "unauthorized" by the owners/administrators of the network in question. Any actions by members of AMHD that would be offered to help in this manner would directly violate the site's TOS

Besides I don't think that's fair at all. Some kids get their work done earlier and all they want to do is get on there and check the messages from their friends. I think kids should get notes from parents saying its OK for the kids to go on the internet.

You are missing the point here. Lets say you have a safe deposit box in a bank vault. You go into the vault and while there, you ask the attendant to also open up another box, not yours. Would you expect the attendant to do so or would you expect the attendant to call the police? That's the situation here. The school has set boundaries on what their computers can and can't be used for. They have the right to do so. Students do NOT have the right to try and bypass those controls.

Fairness doesn't enter into it. Security and distraction are the issues. Sure some students do finish their work early and have valid free time. But that's not what school is for. Better to use that time for learning, they have their own time to socialize. For every student that has valid free time there are more students who will abuse the privilege.

But there is another issue here and that's security. Do you have any clue how much time is wasted in dealing with malware? Any organization has the right to protect their systems from such malware rather then waste time clearing it out.

There is a big difference between stealing a safety deposit box, and accessing a blocked site, there are ways around the blocking that don't involve breaking into to anything or changing anything on the schools policy.

Jesus christ "But that's not what school is for. Better to use that time for learning, they have their own time to socialize." not only is school a place to learn, but ummmmm talk to any child psych and they will tell you that it's also an important place to learn socialization.

When you become a sys admin like some of us are you'll understand. It's about our network, security and maintaining the policies of the organization.

Why doesn't the honour student request access from the administration?
The sys admin is just doing a job, it isn't personal at all. And blocking sites in a work network is becoming very, very common. You can visit any site you want from home.

You just don't get it do you? The school has set a rule. Trying to bypass the blocks is breaking the rules. Trying to get around that rule is unethical and wrong.

I agree that socialization is an important part of school, but there are times and places. What can possibly be so important about checking your MySpace page that can't wait?

Who said life was fair? Maybe it is unfair for the honor students to have privileges taken away because of the abuses of others. In that case your ire should be directed at those whose abuse of the access has resulted in system admins being forced to protect their systems. Instead of wrongly getting upset at them (note I deleted your abusive note, its not appropriate here). System Admins don't "think" they have power, they DO have power. But more than that they have a responsibility, a responsibility to make sure the system is up and running and available to all. You need to grow up a bit and understand about responsibility.

Yeah, socialising with other human beings in a real-time environment! I doubt any child psychologist would tell you that a child would benefit more greatly from sitting on myspace than schoolwork!

And if you're an honour student, who is finishing your work early, your teacher's should be giving you extra work so you can further excel yourself! I doubt a honour student would WANT to spend the school day sat on myspace anyway!

If you got caught doing this at work, you'd get fired... if you got caught doing it online, you'd end up in prison! It's quite simple!

    Facebook is better anyway! :p
