Changing a ceiling fan to a 3 bulb light fixture.
My light fixture has two black wires, and a green. The ceiling has one black, white and green and a red. I connected the black to black, the black with writing on it to white and the green to green and cap off the red. The light works but the bulbs get to hot. Do I need to change the switch on the wall.

What wattage? How are they "too" hot? Most 3 bulb fixtures are 60 watt per bulb, particularly if enclosed.. Why not go to a CFL.
