Are you still liable for a debt that has been delinquent for over 8 years?
If a credit card account has been delinquent since 1998/99 and has been on my credit report for over 8 years, am I still liable for that debt? Shouldn't this debt be null and void? I noticed that every time this particular credit card debt is sold to another collection agency, it shows up on my credit report as a new debt, when in actuality the account has been delinquent for over 7 years, is this legal?

It is legal and that's the way for them to keep that account on your report. As long as they keep selling it to new agency's... the 7 or 8 year clock begins again. In my opinion, they are all in it together... different name but still the same. Maybe if you contact them and come to some agreement, that may help. But for something as ancient as it is I wouldn't offer no more than 50% of the debt, if that.
