Want to remove wall lights and disconnect from switch

What's your question? Make sure you turn off the right circuit and remove them.

What is your plan with the wires? If everything is depowered you can leave the wire in the wall. However if you are going to have power to the switch, even if removed, you can't just wire nut or tape them up and leave them in the wall.

Thanks for the reply(ies). Indeed, my plan was to disconnect the wires from the light switch and also (of course) disconnect the wire from the wall lamp, remove the wall lamp and leave the wires in the wall. For neatness sake, I was going to bind them or put something on the ends.

I had been looking at all sorts of blogs and chat rooms and sites and seeing conflicting info. Logic says that if the wires are depowered then there shouldn't be an issue. Leaving the wires in the wall and ensuring that they are marked on the house plans would enable reinstatement should that ever be required.

Wire nuts on the ends. In case someone turns the power on.
Tape tends to fall off.

Code does not allow any hot wire, even capped off, to be left in a closed up wall. It must be in an accessible junction box. My point was not so much the wire to the light but the hot to the switch. Is it through wired or hot at the light and switch looped. There are solutions, putting the junction box behind a picture or mirror. The junction box cannot be buried in the wall if any wires are hot.
