Unable to open concinnity faucet to replace cartridge

I have a concinnity mount vernon single lever faucet. It leaks out of the spout. I believe it needs a new ceramic cartridge. I cannot figure out how to get the faucet apart in order to get to the cartridge. There is no plate to pop off and I don't see any screws. How do I get this apart?
Kohler kitchen faucet, model 12172, replace valve

I am trying to replace the valve on my Kohler kitchen faucet, model 12172. There is a cap over the valve that I can not remove. The cap must be removed to get to the valve. Can anyone tell me how to remove the cap.
Do I have a defective Kohler cartridge or shower valve?

I replaced my shower cartridge valve (Kohler Rite Temp Kit 76851) recently because of dripping.
