The night I took Ambien
I don't know if anyone else takes or has taken sleep aides. I am getting a certain age and I struggle to stay asleep. In any event the doctor gave me some ambien and I took it. I found that it really did help me. I don't take it every night and I only take it right before I hit my bed... UNTIL the other night.
I popped one and started to lock the house up but my stupid dog ran out the front door. I am in my PJ's it is dark and I am yelling for him. My neighbor who is outside grabs him, his wife who is a good friend of mine comes out and walks me home with Buddy. I never mention that I took a sleeping pill, I didn't think of it. I wasn't sleepy and I mean.. I was going right home to get in bed... right? I put the dog in and chatted with my friend for a few minutes and then I woke up the next day. Unfortunately, what happened before I woke the next morning was a LOT.
I recall chatting and then I recall nothing. But I apparently went wild and weird. I was happy and talking non stop. I danced on the porch, told my friend I could do the cha cha and I told her I taught my husband to do the cha cha. NONE of which is true. When she left I waved and smiled and fell sound asleep sitting. She had to come back to make me go inside. I was your basic train wreck. The worst part was when I came back into the house I made myself a big bowl of ice cream with chocolate syrup and I ate it. When I saw my friend the next day I played it off like I remembered and all that. She had to tell from my stunned face I didn't. Especially when she explained how I danced. Sigh...
My neighbor has told everyone. It is humiliating. All I wanted was a night of sleep. I hadn't slept in two days and I made a fool of myself. I was headed to bed and the DOG had to run off. I shudda let him GO! Has anyone had trouble taking this medicine? I could be on the commercial for side effects and what to expect.

I used to drink... and *ahem* occasionally I would get out of line and do something a little stupid that seemed to be the right thing to do at the time. Now and then I would sober up and try to recall what I did and often it was pretty embarrassing... and sometimes could have gotten me in trouble. I once ran down a major roadway with no pants or underwear on at 11pm on a dare... but I kept going and my friends had to chase me down and bring me back. Ah, the good old days...
Anyway, I've been through it and it is hard to face people after that. The thing that you have going for you is that if you are not normally like this, you can simply tell your friend what really happened. Just come out and admit it and tell her you had no idea that you would have this kind of reaction. A friend will understand this.
Me? I had no excuses as it was a fairly normal thing for me to be... "unusual". This is why people liked to hang out with me... I think.

I fell down a flight of stairs one night, backwards. I got up and continued to party. Fell through a glass door... kept partying. These days? I'd be down for the count.
BUT! This thread isn't about me... I only brought it up so Classy would see that she's not alone in how she feels... but like I said, she has a good, legitimate excuse... my excuse came in a 12 ounce can.

I woke up at 6:15 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. Maybe I need some of that Ambien. I need to take a nap but don't dare for fear I will end up like a baby with days and nights mixed up.

That's a very common side effect of Ambien actually. Sleep walking and sleep eating are two of the most common side effects.
I remember watching that show about Gene Simmons, "Gene Simmons Family Jewels." His wife Shannon was taking Ambien and didn't know why she gained so much weight. They put cameras in the house and she was up walking around, eating, calling people in the middle of the night, etc.
You might want to give your doctor a call and get something a little less strong. Melatonin is a good start.

J_9,
I know it is a side effect and actually I had taken it before but I always went straight to bed. It is so embarrassing... the whole neighborhood knows. My friend thought it was hysterical... I don't. Ugh
I did talk to my doctor and she changed the script form 10mg to 5. So far so good. I think I have only tried the waltz on my porch.. no more cha cha. Lol

Odinn7,
You know it is funny. I have been in a group at church and several women were in AA. They have talked about black outs but I thought that meant passed out. But apparently it doesn't. It means you do stuff and you don't remember. It is AWFUL. So even if drinking was fun for you... that dreadful feeling later that you made a fool of yourself had to be miserable. Not worth it. Glad you could feel my pain. If you have never done anything like that it is hard to understand the humiliation. :)

Small round unscored white pill with the numbers 93 on one side and 74 on the other side.
And if this is zolpidem, what dosage? I have always taken reg 10 mg ambien and not used to these new pills. Want to make sure they are what I am supposed to be taking. Thank You.
