    Pupil different sizes
Hello all,I have a very worrying problem and would like to know if anybody has experienced this...

Ok I've been suffering headachs for 6months,been to the dr's countless of times and been told its sinus related.. Anyway this isn't about my headachs, well not much. The thing is 4nights ago, I saw that my pupils were two different sizes , of course I panicked, worrying it's a brain tumour, when I woke up the next morning they were normal,I did though have a headach in my left eye , anyway part of me did think it may be a one of... but I rang the dr anyway and she said it didn't sound very normal and has refured me to an eye specialist which isn't until 23rd April.. I was still worried, but I was starting to calm down when all of a sudden,I looked in the mirror as I was coming out of the bathroom a day later and my pupils were again different sizes, even my boyfriend noticed,so panicking again I went to the doctors, showed her some pictures * as I took some * and she said 'oh yes,I can see they are uneven' gave me some tablets for my migrane like headach, told me to see an optician and wait for my hospital appointment, I have the optician on Friday and the hospital on the 23rd April but I am so so worried! I have ocd,and am terrified I am going to die... is there any reason why this is happening to me?

Both pupils react to different light settings etc, but one stays smaller then the other :(

Oh and, the day before my pupils went odd, my dog did headbutt me,very hardly on the head,I even have a little mark from where her tooth knocked me on the head.. I doubt its to do with that but I just thought id say.

    Here's a picture =

It is possible that you received a slight concussion from the "headbutt." A concussion can result in this.

How long after you butted heads with your dog did this happen?

    What medications are you taking?

Hello, well my dog headbutter me Thursday and I noticed the pupil sizes around Saturday night... so I'm not to sure on that. I am on quite a few meds as I suffer from low blood pressure, I am on saroxat, cardicor, florinef, serc-8 and also I have been given a nasal spray which I've stopped using today in case that two is causing it..

Sorry it is taking me so long to get back to you. You are not in the U.S. I see, so I have to find the U.S. names for your meds.

Saroxat is called Paxil in the U.S. and is used for anxiety disorders as well as OCD.

Cardicor is called Zebeta in the U.S. and is a beta blocker used for hypertension (high blood pressure) you say that you have low blood pressure though. I am concerned that this med might be causing your problem, but am still checking into it.

Serc-8, could that be spelled SEC-8?

Hiya,no I'm in the uk... I am on beta blockers as I also have a very odd heartrate,. the Serc-8 tablets are for my ears , they are also called betahistine dihyrocholoride.. Thank you for the replys :) I am terrfied it's a tumor or something like that,of course my boyfriend and family are saying they doubt it is,as I've had the same headachs for 6months,and if it were a brain tumor they would be getting worse by know... but I mean if you put in 'different sized pupils' in Google,a tumor or bleeding in the brain etc is what comes you first

nope there is no swelling at all, and a lot of the time my pupils are normal, the only thing which happens when my pupils change,is just that, they change, one small and one big =/ I'm not sure which eye is the one which isn't working... its very scary

sorry for making you think somuch lol

Okay, I can't see where any of your meds are causing this. Does this tend to happen only when you are having a headache?

No it doesn't,the night it happened I didn't really have a headach to be honest... I just noticed my pupils in the bathroom mirror, and panicked, the next day I had a really bad headach in my eye,now that may have been caused by crying the night before.. yesterday my headach was quite bad,but it wore of, and then I noticed again my pupils were different sizes.. today I have a bit of a headach, but that's all. I can't figure out what it is, so it has to be something bad.. I mean maybe the bump on the head has set of some bleeding in the brain? I don't know, I am really confussed

Wow, you pretty well have me stumped too.

If I were you I would make an appointment with my doctor as soon as possible. You may need to have an MRI.

However, it is my belief that with my health, I stop at no costs to find the answers. It is the only life you have and you need to treat it well.

Please make an appointment as soon as possible.

Good, sounds like your doctor is sending you in the right direction. A neurologist will most likely do the MRI and an ophthalmologist will no doubt look for intraocular pressure.

Please keep me posted on what you find out.

My boyfriend pupils are almost always different sizes and it's noticeable but he is normal. I don't think you should be worried about it.

I don't think the pupils on their own are all that abnormal, maybe the retina in one of your eyes is less sensitive than the other, and so one eye needs to open up a little more to get the same light levels.

However, with the other symptoms you are describing, I think it is something you should be concerned about.

I hope your appointment went well. Please do keep us informed

Two years ago, my cousin, then 16 yrs old, started complaining about her eyes and we noticed the pupils being uneven. We didn't think too much of it at the time, because she had been around a strobe light. A few weeks later, it happened again. She didn't have headaches, but blurred vision. She went to see doctors and all told her not to worry.

She is now 18 yrs old and perfectly healthy. She still have "spells" from time to time, but they are few and far between.

Just my opinion... it may get worse with anxiety?!

I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well but I don't think you have a brain tumor unless you have other symptoms like headaches or vision problems, dizziness? Like I sdaid before my boyfriends pupils are almost always different sizes but he isn't saying that it worries him. I don't know if he has any other problems couse he never tells me about it and he rearly goes to the doctor. I hope your appointment goes well and it's good news, keep us posted
