    Parvo
Hello my name is Marco and I got a chihuahuha a few weeks ago and at first she was how every puppy is running around playing like puppies should be .But on Friday she started to vomit we didn't think much of it at the time we though t it was something she ate but on Saturday she threw up again and didn't have much of an appetite so we took her to the vet. They checked and said she might have a virus and asked if we wanted to do a parvo test we agreed and it came back positive. They told us we could give her a treatment but it would cost a few thousand dollars and there was still a possibility that she could die. We took her home and searched the web for answers. We have given her pedialyte we made her some chicken soup and gave here some of the broth. She is acting normal she has only vomited on Friday and Saturday and she has no bloody or red diarrhea. Today I was told she ate some food by herself. She is walking and trying to play when ever she sees me or a family member. I don't know whether she is sick or the test was wrong could someone help me understand what's happening?d

Give her pepto bismol and Pedialyte every two hours around the clock. The pepto will help her keep the pedialyte down and the pedialyte will keep her hydrated and replace electrolytes her body needs to fight the virus. I live in Kentucky and have many dogs. Our vet told us about this because we were also told the treatment would cost hundreds and may not work, he said these was the best home treatment. It has worked for us many times because even when puppy's get their shots they may still get parvo during the treatments. They are not safe until they have had all their shots which isn't until roughly 4 months old. Hope this helps save her.

While I do agree with the above poster that pepto bismol can be given to your dog, I don't think it's necessary in this case, since she hasn't vomited or had diarrhea since Saturday.

Continue the pedialyte if she's not drinking regularly, or urinating often. That's going to be a judgement call on your part. If she's a young puppy she should be peeing around every 2 hours. If she's not, then she probably still needs the pedialtye. Gatorade can also be given.

I've never heard of anyone curing parvo just by giving pedialyte at home, but if the vet said it was parvo, I'm not inclined to disagree.

Make sure she gets plenty of rest, give her time to recover from this. No heavy foods, her tummy is likely still sore. Skinless chicken (cooked of course), rice, is a good diet for a dog with an upset tummy.

If she start to have diarrhea again, or vomiting, then try the pepto with pedialyte. Make sure not to give too much pepto, go by the weight requirements on the bottle.

    Good luck.
