Lost help files in Win XP applications
After installing SP2 lost XP Office applications help pages. Accessing help when in Excel or Word etc gives left hand pane with contents/index but right hand pane gives error message "Action Cancelled- Internet Explorer could not link web page..." etc etc. All files in Office\1033 folder seem OK but can't read any .CHM files (compiled HTML files).
    Any ideas

    Help files
    Hi,
According to many websites, this is another of Microsoft's security blunders!
In an effort to make your computer more secure, Microsoft released its Service Pack 2 (SP2) for XP. This limits Internet Explorer as to where it can go on the web! Great thinking, no?

Here is a site explaining what to do to return to what you are use to:

    Hello,

It may happen your files were accidentally erased. Anyway, I'm pretty sure data recovery tools such as Active@ undelete or Uneraser (DOS) should really help. They worked for me in a similar situation so you can really give it a try.

    Greetings,

I can say if these files are erased you can still try restore them using Active@ Undelete or Uneraser (for DOS) tools. These are really awesome data recovery utilities. They never failed me before and were able to restore data long considered lost. Really powerful ones, that should help.
