    Water no water
We have had water pressure problems for a couple years like if I was washing clothes and then turned on a sink the water would be a very small stream but when the washer kicks off it would practically blow the bottom of the sink out. Then about 6 months ago we started having "white water" like if you got a glass of water it would look milky but clear up.then about 3 weeks ago my son was in the shower and he started yelling cause the water cut off he turned the shower off waited a few minutes and it came back on but we had been asleep so no one had been using the water and then it didn't happen again for about a week then I was doing the smallest load of laundry and it wouldn't even fill up before it cut off and we had been gone all day just got home so no one had been using the water and it has happened several times there is also a lot of air in the lines when it comes back on like when the power goes out then comes back on but I noticed that if I catch it before it totally stops and turn off the washer for a minute or so then turn it back on it will fill up. People have told us several things it could be a busted pipe somewhere, the pressure tank, the pressure switch or well going dry what should we try 1st or should we call a plumber

Sorry it took so long I had to ask my mom. She said the well is probably about 40 or 45 years old and about 300 ft. deep but the pump and pipe were replaced about 7 years ago. The water here is very red so we have a filter out at the well and we have to change it very often and it is always full of red mud like stuff and my mom said when they had the problems before the footvalve was stuck because of the red mud stuff. Since I posted as of last night I was doing a small load of laundry and it filled up and washed but then when it started to fill for the rinse cycle it quit and I turned it off like we usually do and it didn't come back. My husband went out to the pump and he could hear it running so after a little while we turned it off. Then after an hour we turned the pump back on waited a little while and still no water and the pump was still running so we turned it off we checked again this morning and still the same thing.

There is another guy here who usually works weekdays and he might have a better idea. I don't think this is a DIY project for you folks.

Sounds like air in the water. If so, then it is possible that your water table has dropped to the point where you are pumping air/water, and then just air.

If the pump is running and you are getting no water, then it sure sounds like it is not delivering water for some reason. If that is the case, then you will probably want to call a pro in.

Hi tinajamison and welcome to The Plumbing Page at ANHD.com.
You are dealing with two issues here. The well and your house piping, Let's take the well first. It sure sounds like your water table has fallen and the well's closing in, Hence the air and red mud . The red tells me that there's a lot of iron oxide (rust) i9n your water. Call in a well company to check your well.
Now the house. You have a home that was built in the 60's or 70's. This means that yo probably have galvanized piping. These pipes build up rust on the pipe walls ,(see images) to the point that they restrict the volume and pressure. There is no repair for this. Only replacement. The solution would be to repipe with plastic, Good luck, Tom
