The CHANGE in how we speak?
    Hello?

I remember when a QUESTION was the ONLY time we lifted our voices UP at the end of the sentence. Now, we DO it ALL the time. It's Valley Girl speak. It's monotonous and boring and stupid.

Will we ever go back to normal speak?

It's from watching TV sitcoms, especially "Two Broke Girls."

    Hi Carol:

This has been going on a lot longer than two TV seasons? I don't think it'll ever change?

We don't talk that way in the midwest? At least not if you're over the age of 18?

Change of subject: do kids still use the word "like" incessantly the way they did when my kids were growing up? Typical sentence from my daughter 15 years ago: "We had a test at school and it was like amazingly hard with like 20 questions in like 5 minutes and I think I did like OK, but I'm not sure and won't know until like the end of the week."

The "like" thing is alive and well. Sadly.

My mother in law would say "you know" repeatedly. If I showed you our wedding video you'd giggle at her speech. Ever two words she'd say "you know". It got to the point where everyone was giggling. You know? ;)

My sons new favorite is "you mad bro"? He says it so often that yesterday, when he said it, I looked at him and said "actually, yes, I am mad. If I hear that phrase one more time you'll see how mad I am".

But it beats text talk any day.

Just hope the kids all have a kindergarten teacher who won't allow any "likes", "heys", or other slang. You'll hear "hay is for horses" chanted by a bunch of them anytime someone says it. At least 30 are saved from the nonsense!
