Why does my gas wall heater pilot light go out when I turn the valve from 'pilot' to 'on'? The pilot lights and stays lit until I try to turn the valve. It's got a brand new thermocouple.

Pilot will not lite. Have blown it out with compressed air. Have done this for the last 14 yrs and it always worked. I do have gas in the line up to the pilot. Also, when blowing the pilot out with compressed air I can feel an air stream coming out the other end.

The pilot will light and stay on as long as the knob is in the pilot position as soon as I turn it to the on position I here a click and it goes out immediately. The flame is the appropriate blue color- not yellow to indicate it needs to be cleaned out. It is touching the thermocouple...
