If you are really testing "current", SKA amperes, you probably won't be able to use this. If you are talking voltage, use the 750VAC setting. 120 per pole, 240 across both.

This meter does not have a setting for AC amperes...
I think it's a typo but, are you are asking about testing a dryer power outlet?
Most dryers are 240V, 30A... which this meter would never be able to handle.
An "Amprobe" current meter would be a better choice for that...

So the ACV 750 setting is no good. I tried testing the old power outlet it did not register anything.on the meter outlet has. Been sitting for years without a dryer.
. Maybe a wire came lose, or the 30 amp breaker is bad. No current?

Wait... are you testing for current or voltage?
If testing for "voltage" the 750 ACV is correct as ma0641
Has already stated...
To troubleshoot this, start at the circuit breaker... if it is on and you have 240 volts
At the circuit breaker, follow the wire and confirm that you have the right outlet...
Take out the receptacle and check the connections, but be careful or turn off the circuit
When you take it out..

Oh I see. The breaker box is hard to work on the cover needs to be propped open
It works on a hinge at the top. See picture. This main box carries the big voltage items. Pump/Dryer? And the Main. Each has it own circuit and breaker.
The dryer breaker is 30 amp .

Judging from the discoloration of the cover, I would like to see a good
Electrician examine the interior of this panel...
If you ever have the opportunity to relocate this panel to the indoors, it will certainly last longer and cause less headaches.
