We have a Heil R-410A Split System Heat Pump. This is an all electric unit used for heating and AC in our home which was built in 2011. We have lived here app. 15 months, and in that time the system has worked fine. We have just had the coldest days of the fall lately and the heating system has been running a lot. One thing that we noticed is that the outside unit is completely covered in frost. There is a copper tube that leads from the house to the unit and where it connects there is a buildup of frost also. We don't remember seeing this last winter, and wonder if this is something serious that we should be calling the dealer that installed our unit about?

Frost/ice build up is not a good thing,, is possible the system is low on refrigerant., before you call the man,, make sure all air flow is clear, meaning outside unit free and clear of leaves,, and the inside filter is clean
