    central a/c outside compressor will not shut off

    It could be a miss-wired thermostat or damaged low voltage wires going to the outside unit OR the contactor/starter in the outside unit could have the contacts welded together from age or use.

    In other words something is causing the outside unit to get the signal to operate OR the like I said before the contacts in the contactor are welded shut causing the unit to keep running when it should no be.
