    Tax Questions
We purchased equipment for a customer to rent over 36 months. As a reseller, we did not pay sales tax for this equipment. At the end of the contract, the customer has the right of first refusal. Sales tax is included in their monthly payment to us.

Should we have paid tax when we purchased the equipment?

depends on your jurisdiction but I would expect you pay sales tax on your sales value
