math word problem that doesn't add up
    I barrow $500 from mom and $500 from dad. I spend $970. I pay dad $10. And I pay mom $10. I have $10. Left. Only problem I have is in the math. $500. Less $10. Is $490. X 2 = $980 + $ 10. I had left over is $ 990. Why is the math not adding up?

    Seriously, WHAT?
You're asking why do you have $10 left?

    $500 from mom + $500 from dad = $1000
    You spent $970.
    $1000 - $970 = $30
    You paid your mom $10 and your dad $10, which is a total of $20. ($10 +$10 = $20)
    So now you lossed $20 from your remaining $30. ($30 - $20 = $10)
You should only have $10 left.

Your answer is $990 BECAUSE you forgot about the second $10 (to your Mom) and the fact that you spent $970.

    Take your $990, subtract $10 = $980, subtract $970 = $10.

Your formula, for lack of a better word, is faulty.
