Please use parnetheses - for the left hand side of the identity what you wrote is this:

$ \frac 1 1 - \cos(x) - \frac 1 1 + \cos(x) $

which clearly equals 0. What I think you meant is this:

$ \frac 1 {(1- \cos(x))} - \frac 1 {(1 + \cos(x))} $

All you need do is merge the two fractions into one and it comes right out.

((cos b)/(1-(tan b))) + ((sin b)/(1-(cot b))) = sin B + cos B

1. Please don't tag a new question onto an old thread.

2. We won't do your homework for you, but will provide gudance. In general the best way to approach these problems is to convert the tangent and cotangent functions into their sine and cosine equivalents, then simplify the resultimng fractions. You may have to apply one or two basic identities such as $\sin^2x + \cos^2x = 1$ .

3. The equation that you wrote is incorrect - please check it, because
$ \frac {\cos (b)} {1 - \tan(b)} \ - \ \frac {\sin(b)}{1 - \cot(b)} \ \ne \ \sin (b) + \cos (b)$
