    Turn off all breakers, if power goes out, they were protected by breakers.

    Have you been trained on how to work on electrical circuits? If not then you have a very real exposure for a shocking, or fatal shock.

    A simple voltage test will give you most information. If the meter displays, 120 volts, then you have a line voltage, sourced from the panelboard.
