Cannot light Pilot Light on Water Heater
My water heater is located in my attic. After Katrina, I had to repair my damaged roof and it seems that the attic fan went out. Since then my water heater pilot light has repeatedly gone out. I can re-light it usually, but the lack of air up in the attic causes the light to go out. Presently, the light has gone out and I cannot relight it. What can I do, other than call a plumber to check out the unit?

If there was not enough air in your attic to light a pilot then you also would not be breathing. The problem may be very simple but the possibility of other issues and the possibility of setting your house on fire I suggest you get it repaired by a licensed plumber.

Replace the thermocouple that's all you have to do or clean it with sandpaper.

Water heater pilot light problems [ 31 Answers ]

Pilot went out, no problem relighting. BUT when I turn up the thermostat, the flame gets out of control and escapes from the two protective doors. It has started melting the plastic on the outside of the tank around the drain valve.
